What Is Your Singing Style?

Do you understand what it means to create your own singing style? You, undoubtedly, try to sing as well as you can. It’s great to have a good voice. However, talent doesn’t necessarily guarantee a unique singing style. You need to put a spin on your best singing qualities to make people want to listen to you, instead of other performers. That’s what singing style is all about.

Before you can adapt your own personal singing style, you should understand a bit about tone and resonance. Resonance is, basically, how a sound travels through your throat and, after that, through the air to your audience. You need to learn how to produce the proper tone to create the resonance that you want, in order to perfect your singing style.

To understand how your resonance will affect your singing style better, first, think about how it affects speaking. There are two different ways in which public speakers tend to speak. One way is to speak only from their throats. Speakers who use that technique tend to sound like they are shouting, if they are male. Women who do so sound high pitched and squeaky, usually. A better way is for you to project from a different place, one which will give you a confident sounding voice.

How do you project your voice in order to have a great singing style? Well, you need to find a good mixture between your “head voice” and your “chest voice”. If you don’t find the proper blend, you could permanently damage your vocal chords. At the very least, though, you won’t be able to sing to your full potential. That’s why resonance and singing style go together.

There are several things you can do to improve your resonance and, by extension, your singing style. For instance, try to lift sound above your . Picture yourself placing the sound in the front of your mouth. If you focus on your mouth, not your vocal chords, you should avoid straining them. It’s also important to use the proper breath control. The key to all of that is practice, of course. Practice singing scales up and down, gently. It will help you to exercise your voice properly.

Once you have the basics down, you can concentrate more on perfecting your individual singing style. You won’t be straining you larynx or vocal chords. You should feel your head and chest vibrating slightly, when you sing. Everyone is different, though, so you need to see what works best for you.

Remember, resonance is the key to the best singing style for you. The point where you create resonance and the point where you create your singing voice are exactly the same. So, experiment with it. Test yourself. Adapt your singing style and you can create a unique performance that everyone will love.
