Consequences of Using True Voice Singing Method
What is a true voice? Well, a true voice is the voice that a person should use to sing and speak. Unfortunately, many people do not. You see, if you produce sound from your lower throat it can cause you to suffer from vocal strain. On the other hand, if your sound is higher and more nasal in nature, it isn’t as pleasant sounding to those around you. If you want to be known, respected and enjoyed for your singing and speaking talents, you need to learn to sing and speak in your true voice. To teach you how to use
your true voice properly, I’d like to tell you a little story.
At one point, Michael worked with an actor who was around 70 years old. This actor had worked on a major television show, but he was let go because his voice was no longer clear. It kept breaking up all the time. What was the source of his trouble? Well, Michael soon discovered that the actor had suffered from pneumonia, which in turn gave him a bad, long-lasting cough. Instead of using his true voice, the actor had been forced to modify the way he was vocalizing because of the pneumonia. Over time, that caused major damage to his vocal chords and muscles. Doctors attributed the vocal problems to age, but Michael knew otherwise.
When he had the actor come in for a session, Michael found that, although in his 70’s, the actor was remarkably vital and fit. Although, he was quite upset. His spirits were soon restored, however, when Michael re-introduced him to his true voice. You see, his breathing had been all wrong and his voice had been pushed from deep in his throat since he’d had the pneumonia. Since the cough was putting pressure on his vocal chords, the actor had over-corrected by trying to drop his voice deeper, which only increased his problems.
So, by learning to speak in his true voice again from Michael, there were great improvements made. In fact, after some singing exercises, the actor was able to sing and speak beautifully. He had a rich, solid sound, to be expected in men much younger, usually.
The moral of this story is that, no matter what your age is, you can always improve your voice. Often, bad vocal habits can be learned, especially if you are ill for an extended period of time. As a result, your vocal chords may suffer. All you need to do to fix he problem, however, is become reacquainted with your true voice. So, let your true voice do the talking or singing, as the case may be, and you’ll find yourself both talking and singing with much better quality and greater confidence.
